Happy October Berry Patch! I have my first Halloween themed mani of the month for you today. This was based on something I saw on Pinterest, and the original post was from a Tumblr called Blanket Print Nails (thanks for the inspiration!). But I didn’t want to straight up copy her design, so I added my own twist to it by making it into a glitter jelly sandwich
And I really like this look, because it’s simple and anyone can do it!
A while ago I had bought a couple of jelly polishes from Nfu Oh that I thought would make really interesting and unique jelly sandwiches. And since those colors were black and grey, I figured October was the perfect month to bring them out. So I started with a base of Nfu Oh JS-01, a polish from their Jelly Syrup Series. It was nice and easy to apply and has a great jelly look with one coat – I almost expected it to look grey, but you can definitely tell that it’s black. Then I applied two coats of OPIs Pirouette My Whistle glitter on top of the jelly. I love the way Pirouette looks in the bottle as well as on my nails. Its full of silver micro glitter as well as larger silver hexes. I had a little bit of trouble getting the larger pieces of glitter where I wanted them, but overall this glitter wasn’t too much trouble to work with. Then to complete the jelly sandwich (jelly polish, glitter polish, jelly polish) I added one more coat of the black Nfu Oh jelly on top. I was really happy with the way this turned out, but I wanted to add one more touch to really get that Halloween feel. So I did some really simple googly eyes as accents on my ring finger and thumbs. They are just two white dots of OPIs Alpine Snow and then two dots of Zoya’s Raven on top (created with a dotting tool).
The wear on this manicure had its pros and cons. The pro was that I didn’t get any chips until about the 6th day of wear. The con is that I started getting free edge wear on the second day. But overall, I was really impressed with how well this jelly mani wore. I hope you are all starting to play around with Halloween looks too – A) because it’s fun and B) because I will be giving the details of my Halloween nail art contest in the next couple of days
