Girly-Girl Nail Art Challenge #5: Gotta Love Chick Flicks!

OPI Divine Swine, Essie Marshmallow and OPI Crown Me Already!

For the 5th Girly-Girl challenge my inspiration was one of the girliest chick flick movies of all time: Legally Blonde!  The main character is all about pink and sparkle.  And there are even several scenes that take place in a nail salon as Elle is getting a manicure.  So my manicure is jam-packed with pink and sparkles just like her wardrobe :)

I began with a base of Essie’s Marshmallow to cover up my nail in case I didn’t get the coverage I wanted from the notoriously finicky glitter polishes.  For my pink glitter I used OPI’s Divine Swine from the Muppet collection.  It has lots of mini circular purplish-pink glitter mixed with sporadic large silver hex glitter.  I had to put on 4 coats to get full coverage and with that I couldn’t really see any of the Marshmallow beneath it.  I also did an accent nail of OPI’s Crown Me Already! from their Miss Universe collection.  Crown Me Already! was the perfect choice for an accent nail because it matches the silver glitter in Divine Swine.  It’s overflowing with tiny silver circular glitter and big chunky hex glitter – there is much more glitter in Crown Me Already! per coat than there is in Divine Swine.  I only ended up using 3 coats and had great coverage.  I am in love with how well this polish went on, how great the coverage is and how absolutely, blindingly sparkly it is!  I might not have even needed the Marshmallow underneath…

Unfortunately this challenge landed on a day when I had a big break on my pinky nail and had to resort to bringing all my nails down to match.  My nails haven’t been this short in over 2 months, so I am definitely in mourning (even if it is easier to type).  Normally I would do a manicure that is very subtle and wouldn’t draw attention to my nubbins, so it feels a little strange to have a manicure that is begging for attention on these sad short nails :/

I love this look they do so well together… Also poor pinky finger I hate when that happens because when I’m posting pictures all I can focus on is my nub so in the end I’m like I’m gonna flaunt the nub so darling flaunt it lol

I’m loving the Divine Swine here.. Didn’t realize it was such a beauty! Maybe it’s the Marshmallow you used underneath? Got to add that on my wishlist.

Like you said, this challenge is making me want to watch all these movies! Legally Blonde is a modern classic and your nails are adorable! Love seeing bloggers rocking the shorter nails, as mine are tiny at the moment! x

  • erin says:

I really like your shorter nails as well! Crown Me Already is one of my favorite glitters. Nice job!

  • Kathryn says:

Very pink and sparkly! Crown Me Already looks gorgeous! And I agree, your shorter nails look nice. My left pointer just broke and I’ve been trying to overlook the fact that it’s sticking out like a sore thumb (no pun intended). LOL. But they’ll grow back before we know it. :)

    • A. Berry says:

Thanks, I definitely considered not making the others match, lol but I just told myself it will be like how a trim is good for your hair, making my nails short will somehow make them grow longer next time…haha

  • the_lacquerologist says:

This looks great on you! And I think your shorter nails look really nice! =)
