Domo-Kun Manicure

OPI Mermaid’s Tears, OPI Decades of Shades, OPI Alpine Snow, OPI Big Apple Red, Zoya Raven

This was a manicure I did before I started putting my blog together, so I apologize for the quality of the pictures.  This was actually my first  attempt to use my MASH nail art brushes.  I was looking for something cute and different and happened to look at the Domo-Kun stuffed animal sitting in my apartment.  I did a quick google search to see if other people had done something similar, and of course in the age of google, I was able to find some pictures.  I knew I only wanted to use this as an accent nail so I needed to pick a solid color for the rest of my nails.  I had recently purchased a bottle of OPI’s Mermaid’s Tears and thought brown and green is a nice color combination.  I really love Mermaid’s tears because on its own, it looks very close to the color of a Tiffany’s box.  And the main color I used for Domo-Kun’s face, OPI’s Decades of Shades, is actually a discontinued color that I don’t use often but I am glad I have around for projects like this.

My only other nail art experience was with toothpicks instead of brushes so I thought for sure the brushes would make the process a breeze – but this was definitely more difficult than I had expected!  One of the main things I had to deal with was the wait time between adding details.  I realized that moving on too quickly resulted in the colors mixing instead of layering.  So if you are planning to get fancy with your nails, make sure you have some time on your hands.  Not only do you have to wait to add all the details you also have a long final drying time before you can really touch your nails with out it leaving some kind of mark.  I tend to do my nails at night so that makes it easier to sit around and watch TV while I wait for my nails to dry.

But I think the time spent was worth it because I ended up with a unique conversation starter.  There were quite a few times while I was at work or paying for something and the person I was interacting with asked about my nails.  So if you like a little extra attention now and then you should give nail art a try.

Thanks for reading!  I post every Sunday and occasionally on Wednesdays :)
